Unfortunately its all learned behavior. No need to point out nationality because this is all too common not only in South America but in the North too and all the Caribean Islands. I grew up in this environment and though nothing of it due to my natural inclination for dancing and self expression, but then again I wasn’t 5 yrs old grindin my sh*t on some boy, my grandmomma woulda beat my a**. and that is where it all begins, what you elders will allow you to be exposed to and how they will teach you to behave acording to your age and gender. Unfortunately generations of parents have become more degenerate and often too yielding of media bullsh*t because they themsleves are giving birth at premature ages, haven’t been raised with proper examples, and often rebel their up bringing hence living an adult life through childish emotions and behaviors. I feel sorry for these children and truly ashamed of these parents.

Unfortunately this is commonplace in most of the Latin American and Caribbean cultures and can be seen every day of the week. The adults do it and the children naturally follow. Bear in mind that teenage pregnancy is also part of the culture in many of these countries. Education and exposure to other culture is what is required.

This is the kind of behavior that sets the tone for a society that is machismo based. The men in this type of society are taught from
a young age to objectify women and in turn the women play up to these expectations. Mothers raise boys who disrespect women because they don’t want them to leave them for another woman who will never treat them the way they they treat them. This is a vicious cycle. Little children get sexualized early, girls get pregnant earlier. Boys run away back to mom who teaches boys to use women for sex without commitment and the girls they impregnate teach their children the same. Sex without responsibility is the main theme.

We can say that this is a cultural thing, but does that make it right?
I can say, for example, that in some countries it is illegal to be a Christian and legal to throw them in jail. That is a CULTURAL thing yet does that make it right?
I believe IF this is a cultural thing and normal for young kids to do then it IS WRONG!
Children are meant to be taught about sexuality when they can understand the concept of it and make deicisions for themselves about thier sexuality, not taught dirty dancing because its “Cultural”.
If you watch this you can see a 5 yr old boy dry humping, as if he is having sex, with another young girl. That is disgusting! IT would not surprise me if these children have already been interfered with…just look at their faces…..are they laughing?

First off, this is disturbing. The fact that these children were allowed to perform dances like those in the video is disgusting. The parents obviously have some responsibility here. MTV should NEVER be a babysitter.
My second comment is for Cindy, who said children aren’t “born with the instinct to dryhump”. I beg to differ. As animals (and yes, we ARE animals, after all) we are engrained with an instinct to procreate. This is a fact. Hell, even little puppies have the instinct to hump things… and no dog parent has ever taught their pups to do the deed. They don’t have to. Sex is instinctual. Human children are sexual beings. It is a fact. Sexual dysfunction can be learned.
That being said, it makes me glad that I will never have children. This video should serve as a wake up call to all parents. YOUR CHILDREN ARE GROWING UP WWAAAAAAAYYYY TO FAST! You may want to talk with them. And you definitely should want to monitor their entertainment choices.

Hey people, why is everybody ganging up on Vincent? he didn’t say the video took place in Brazil, he just said it’s similar. I completely agree, I’m half Brazilian half Dominican and for many people in central and south america this *is* normal. I used to dance that way when I was little too, at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in the Bronx. And honestly when you are like 9 years old you don’t even see it as being dirty, you just think that’s what makes you a good dancer, because that’s what makes people clap harder and cheer for you, when you dance crazy on the floor and on the wall and stuff. The fact that it’s a dance contest makes all the more sense to me, since the kids were probably just dancing hard to show who is the best dancer. They have no clue of the meaning of the moves, it’s you all that are putting your judgements on the movements to make them appear sexual. They probably learned that from their older siblings or teenagers at school, on tv, or at reggaeton dance parties. Dance is a huge part of the culture in D.R. so it’s not that big of a deal at all. Also, people in those countries tend to be very outgoing and it’s considered a negative to be shy and reserved, which is why your parents will egg you on to perform and be outgoing. And not everyone who dances like this at 9 years old ends up a **** by the way. It’s just a different culture and this kid dancing is not considered sexual and taboo the way it is in American culture.

The parents shouldn’t be proud and laughing about it…and the kids shouldn’t even know to dance that way! I mean for young adults and adults that dancing is fun and great…but for their age!!! First of all, this was probably taped in the dominican republic or puerto rico. I’m of dominican descent so dialect sounds familiar to me. The fact that this was allowed is appalling. My family would never allow such behavior. This dancing is not traditional. At least not in the Dominican Republic. Probably is Jamaica but I doubt it. If you listen carefully, the music in the background is clearly reggae. The kids probably learned to dance like this from older siblings, their parents or even simpy from watching television. I’m going to assume most of you thought their parents taught them this which is acceptable. I’m guessing some of the kids started freaking before they started recording because they thought it was funny or even cute (because this does happen) and then the parents (thinking it would be cool to tape) started recording it. Believe it or not, recording anything in this culture is a luxury so the fact that they did it was just to show off that they have a video camera. I’m guessing they posted the video themselves because of the youtube craze that has been going on. Now I’m not at all defending this. I’m simply trying to point out that poor education, plus a video camera and internet access leads people to do crazy things. Go on youtube, I’m pretty sure you’ll find some pretty appalling videos on there. This is poor parenting but it is coupled with all the factors that I stated earlier. Go to the Dominican Republic, pull out a video camera and tell everyone to do something funny or even dirty. I bet you the majority will jump at the opportunity to be recorded and do something ridiculous. Don’t think for one second that these kids are innocent. They knew how to grind or get down from the get go. There just needed to be video camera present for it to get out of hand. Take it for what it’s worth. Just think before you post next time. It’s really annoying to read some of your thoughts.

Did anyone notice a PARENT/ADULT grinding on one of the kids? Utterly deplorable. This is not appropriate for any child or teenager to be doing. Sharon, it appears that NO ONE is judging the kids.
