This is from a movie. I forget which, but I’m pretty sure it’s British.
In any case, it’s not real.

I like how the lilttle one on the right doesn’t quite get the right finger up. But she’s trying!

This does look british, and if so the middle finger doesn’t mean anything. If you want to “flip the bird” in england you do what basically amounts to an American peace symbol, just facing the other way. You know, 2 fingers up, but instead of looking at you knuckles like you do with peace, you look at the inside of you hand. Wow, I can’t believe I just typed all that up.

Sorry, Anony Mouse, but you’re not quite right about us Brits ‘flipping the bird’. This symbol means exactly the same as in the US. The ‘two fingers’ or ‘giving the V’s’ is a, now, lesser insult but still rather meaningful. The two finger salute supposedly comes from the Battle of Agincourt in 1415. The English Archers had all been threatened with having their two bow-fingers chopped off to pay them back for having killed so many of the French knights; so the archers would stick up their two fingers (index and middle of their bow-drawing hand) to show that they were still in the killing business. And you’re right, I can’t believe that I just typed all of that up!!

Even if this photo is not real I have seen REAL families like this. Unfortunately these people are allowed to breed thus diluting the gene pool. I sense future Darwin Award winners in the making.

This is a film still from Andrea Arnold’s short film WASP, which won awards at Sundance and the Oscars. The theme of the film is very much Parent Fail and there’s a moment of redemption at the end where Mom realizes how deeply responsible for all their lives she is and for once acts like it.
